We are excited to share this reading endorsement opportunity with you. FEA PD will be hosting a Reading K-12 Exam Review to help any FEA member across the state review for the reading endorsement exam. This will be a 2-day review course on October 28^th and November 4^th from 10 am – 4 pm (see flyer below or attached).

Until June 2024, Florida legislation allows teachers to take and pass the K12 Reading exam to earn their reading endorsement (in lieu of the five reading competencies). This course offers a basic overview of the knowledge and skills for Reading instruction and application in all subject area classrooms while also reviewing the competencies covered in the FTCE K-12 Reading Exam. General Knowledge: This member-driven course will prepare new teachers to take the General Knowledge test that is necessary for achieving teacher certification in Florida. Large and small group sessions are available. Stress Management: Interactive course designed to help educators understand what motivates people to behave and react the way they do. Course is 4-8 hours. Early Career Learning Lab: Receive a $100 stipend to participate each semester as a 0-7 years of experience educator. This is a blended learning environment meant to support early career educators (ECEs) around instructional and classroom problems of practice. Degrees, not Debt: Student Debt Clinics provide information on how to enroll in income-driven student loan repayment programs. 1-hour course. Blended Learning - Classroom Management: Building Positive Relationships with All Students. This is a blended learning class, which means there will be 3 online meetings blended with independent study and online discussion ESE 20 Hour Course: Course meets the state-required 20-hour ESE course for recertification. Course is 20 hours. Managing Student Behavior: This course provides educators with effective strategies for responding to and managing unwanted behavior across a variety of learning environments. Course is 4-8 hours. Financial Literacy and Planning: Managing cash, planning for retirement, student debt forgiveness and an individualized analysis of your finances. This is 4 2 hour courses. SPOKEN SOUL: The Story of Black English is a comprehensive introduction to African-American Vernacular English by the father-and-son writing team of John Russell Rickford and Russell John Rickford, one a journalist and the other a linguist. It was published by Wiley in 2000.
