Day of Solidarity

October 25, 2023

Dear Professional Educators,

We hope you’re doing well and staying healthy. We have some important updates to share with you:

(1) Protected Planning Language Ratification:

We are thrilled to announce that over 97% voting in favor has ratified the Protected Planning Language! This is a huge win for protecting our planning time. It is a shining example of our collective commitment to providing the necessary time and space at work to support student learning and strengthen our partnerships with parents. For more information regarding the protected planning language, please visit our LCTA website here: LCTA in Action.

(2) Day of Solidarity – TOMORROW – Wednesday, October 25, 2023:

This coming Wednesday, October 25, 2023, we invite you to stand in unity for a Day of Solidarity. Please wear your “Find the Funding” sticker and black attire to demonstrate your support for our LCTA Bargaining Team and your support real financial support from our district.      The district has for years has done a great with the budget. We are now asking them to reassess their practices to help stave off turnover and address our current staffing crisis. By using the over-budgeted and not spent money, LCS has an opportunity to address the needs of all bargaining units.  Ask the District to show their support for you by committing those funds to salaries.  We are calling on the Leon County School Board and superintendent to reevaluate the budget and put those additional dollars in your pockets and your households. Why? Because if you are great for kids and partner with parents, we want you in the classroom!  (They do, too.)

School Year Budgeted & Not Spent
17 – 18 $24 M
18 – 19 $25 M
19 – 20 $28 M
20 – 21 $42 M
21 – 22 $37 M
22 – 23 $20 M
23 – 24 ????

(3) Bargaining Session – Wednesday, October 30, 2023:

Our next bargaining session is scheduled for Monday, October 30, 2023, in the Safety and Security Portable at 4:30 PM. Your presence at this session is really important!  (Got family? Bring them. This affects them too.) 🙂  Your participation signifies that you want to be valued and that you believe that your salary should be increased!  Committing to give you meaningful raises is the only demonstration that the district can use to better our community.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch with LCTA with any questions you may have. We are here to partner with you.

Please see your LCTA site rep for more information.

Thank you for all that you do.

In unity,

The LCTA Bargaining Team
